Processing

Surface preparation
Carefully clean all the surfaces to remove dust, dirt, oil, etc., not forgetting those that are difficult to access. If required,
suitable release agent such as petroleum jelly or liquid soap can be used.

Preparing the material (metering & mixing)
Always thoroughly mix SYLARTIVI 11 base before removing them from or processing them in containers, preferably
with a mechanical stirrer. SYLARTIVI 11 does not thicken on storage, however it always helps by little stirring before use.

Weigh out SYLARTIVI 11 base & 27 catalyst accurately by weight, since only strict observance of the mixing ratio will
yield reproducible pot lives and curing time, and cured rubbers with the specified properties.

Mix the components homogeneously using a spatula or a mechanical stirrer for large quantities. While mixing,
regularly scrape the product off the vessel wall with a spatula.

To achieve bubble-free cured rubber products, free-flowing mixtures should be deaerated (or evacuated) under
reduced pressure (10 to 20 mbar) in a desiccator or vacuum cabinet.

SYLARTIVI 11 can be colored by the use of ELASTOSIL® FL series. For selection of suitable colors please check
the information’s given in our leaflet ELASTOSIL® FL series. Comprehensive processing instructions are given in our
leaflet “Processing RTV-2 Silicone Rubber”.

Note: Evacuation causes the catalyzed mix to expand strongly. Only fill the evacuation vessel to at most a quarter of
its total capacity. During evacuation, the rubber expands strongly at first and then usually collapses before it reaches
the rim. De-aeration should not take longer than 1-2 minutes. It should never be performed until no more bubbles
form, otherwise certain components essential for proper curing might escape.

Mold making
Pour the catalyzed and deaerated SYLARTIVI 11 in a thin stream from as low a height as possible. Try not to change thefirst point of contact of the stream with the model to avoid air entrapment.
When the curing time has elapsed, which is 24 hrs. at room temperature (25ºC & 50% RH) then the cured mold can be
removed from the original. The curing time is highly dependent on temperature and humidity. When room temperature and
humidity is higher, the curing time is reduced & vice-versa.
Pot life and curing times may be accelerated by increasing the dosage of 27 catalyst. For faster curing, 13
catalyst is also recommended. Further instructions on catalysts may be found in our datasheet: “WACKER® T
series catalysts.”

Chemical resistance
Fully cured molds made by using SYLARTIVI 11 & 27 catalyst shows excellent chemical resistant. However, mold should
be periodically checked because some aggressive casting material may harm mold during long run of uses.

Storage
The ‘Best use before end’ date of each batch is shown on the product label.
Storage beyond the date specified on the label does not necessarily mean that the product is no longer usable. In this
case however, the properties required for the intended use must be checked for quality assurance reasons.

Pack sizes
Available pack sizes for SYLARTIVI 11 : 5 Kg metal container, 20 Kg plastic pail.
For 27 Catalyst: 100 gm & 250 gm glass bottle.

Safety notes
Being a condensation-curing silicone rubber, SYLARTIVI 11 contains only constituents that over many years have
proved to be neither toxic nor aggressive. Special handling precautions are therefore not required, i.e., only the
general industrial hygiene regulations apply.

27 Catalysts contain organotin compounds, are flammable (flash points 50 °C) and may cause irritation in contact with
eyes and skin. Adequate protective measures are required.

Comprehensive instructions are given in the corresponding Material Safety Data Sheets. They are available on request
from WACKER subsidiaries or may be printed via WACKER web site http://www.wacker.com.
